Living in Edina
Living in Edina:
what to know before you move
An honest local guide from Edina Realtor Brandon Lawrence: the neighborhoods, schools, parks, commute, and what homes actually cost in 2026.
The short version
Who Edina is for
Edina is the west metro’s classic address, a community of about 53,000 that blends old-money charm with modern convenience. Mature tree-lined streets, premier parks, and one of the shortest commutes to downtown Minneapolis of any suburb, paired with a school district that is a destination in itself.
It draws buyers who want established prestige, walkable shopping at 50th & France, and top schools, and who are comfortable at a higher price point. Here is what to know before you look.
The feel of the place
Polished, walkable, and close in
Edina feels settled in the best way. You will find Cape Cods and ramblers, mid-century homes, and new custom builds on mature lots. The signature draws are 50th & France for boutiques and dining, Centennial Lakes Park for walking paths and winter skating, the Galleria for upscale shopping, and the historic Edina Country Club. It is one of the few suburbs where you can walk to dinner and still be ten minutes from the lakes.

Common questions
Is Edina right for you?
Is Edina a good place to live?
Yes, and it is one of the most sought-after suburbs in Minnesota. Edina offers classic tree-lined neighborhoods, walkable shopping at 50th & France, premier parks, a very short commute to Minneapolis, and a nationally regarded school district. It is a premium market, so expect prices above the metro average.
How much does a house in Edina cost?
As of July 2026, the median list price in Edina was about $775,000 and the median sold price was about $745,000, with homes averaging roughly 42 days on market. Edina sits at the higher end of the west metro, though condos near 50th & France and starter homes on the west side widen the range.
Are Edina schools good?
They are among the best in the state. Edina Public Schools includes Concord, Cornelia, Countryside, and Highlands elementaries, South View and Valley View middle schools, and Edina High School. The district is a major driver of demand and home values in the city.
What is the commute like from Edina to Minneapolis?
Very short by suburban standards. Downtown Minneapolis is typically a 12 to 18 minute drive off-peak, MSP Airport 15 to 20 minutes, and Uptown and the Chain of Lakes just 10 to 15 minutes. Downtown St. Paul runs about 25 to 35 minutes.
Is Edina expensive?
It is one of the pricier west-metro suburbs. In July 2026 the median sold price was about $745,000, well above the metro median. That said, condos and townhomes near 50th & France and smaller homes on the west side offer more attainable entry points, and I can point you to them.
