Living in Chanhassen
Living in Chanhassen:
what to know before you move
An honest local guide from Chanhassen Realtor Brandon Lawrence: the neighborhoods, schools, parks, commute, and what homes actually cost in 2026.
The short version
Who Chanhassen is for
Chanhassen is where the metro starts to open up. A newer, growing community of about 26,000 on the southwest edge, it pairs fresh neighborhoods and preserved wetland with top-rated schools and a genuine small downtown anchored by the Dinner Theatres.
It appeals to buyers who want newer construction, lakes and green space, and a family-friendly feel, and who do not mind a slightly longer drive to the city. Here is what to know.
The feel of the place
Newer, green, and family-first
Chanhassen feels young and green. Housing skews to 2000s and newer two-stories, walkouts, and executive custom builds, often near water or preserved land. The standouts are the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, the largest professional dinner theater in the country, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Lake Ann Park with its beach and trails, and Lake Minnewashta Regional Park. Eden Prairie is just ten to fifteen minutes away.

Chanhassen is served by two districts. Eastern Carver County Schools covers most of the city, while Minnetonka Public Schools serves a northern portion. Chanhassen High School serves grades nine through twelve.
Since the district depends on the address, confirm the assigned schools for any specific home with the district before you write an offer.
